Tabakaucoro Back For Games
Athletics Fiji is happy to have former Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro back to compete at the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa in July. Tabakaucoro opted out of the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu to try his hand at rugby.
During the Team Fiji assembly yesterday, athletics coach Albert Miller said preparations are on track and he hopes to get more athletes on board.
“We are still expecting more athletes to show up and compete in the weekly competition which is very important,” Miller said.
“And this time meeting the qualifying standards for the Pacific Games are pretty hard in comparison to previous years. So the athletes need to really pull up their socks and do the hard training in order to qualify.
“And with the inclusion of Tabakaucoro, the future looks bright for our sprinters “Our athletes will be selected on their performance every week. And now that we are heading into the festive season it’s going to be very hard to keep track of the potential athletes.
“Come next year there will be athletes trying to make up for those times and by Easter Games the final list of players should be in so that’s going to be a great challenge for us “We are trying to be positive and build on what we have right now and take control.
“According to the lists, we are looking at 10 females and 15 male athletes.
