Rewa picks Khan as coach
The Rewa Football Association has appointed Nigel Khan as head coach of its senior team on an interim basis until a permanent candidate is found.
Khan coached the Rewa Youth team for 11 years prior to the appointment and will take charge of the senior team with immediate effect.
Rewa FA president Nazil Buksh told SUNsports that Khan will be given an opportunity to secure the role permanently depending on his performance.
“Nigel has been with the team for a long time and the board felt he had the best capabilities to take charge while we look for a new coach,” Buksh said.
“The players are also very familiar with him since Nigel was involved in developing a good number of them and that is a bonus.” The Delta Tigers have big plans for the new season after a mixed one in 2018.
The southerners won the Vodafone Fiji FACT in May, but failed to build on the victory and finished on sixth-place in the Vodafone Premier League, 18 points behind champions Lautoka.
The team has been making wholesale player recruitments since the start of month, and has also advertised the position of head coach. “The board has received a good pool of applicants for the coaching role, including from both local and international coaches,” Buksh said.
“Nigel will also be considered for the role and his best chance to prove himself will come in our opening few matches.”
