of Adi Cakobau School who lost their belongings in the fire that destroyed their dormitory will benefit from the toiletries drive that was started by Year 10 student, AnnMary Raduva.

Ayear 10 student, AnnMary Raduva of Adi Cakobau School (ACS), has started a toiletries drive for the 17 students of her school.

The students are those whose belongings were burned during the fire at their school on Monday morning completely destroying their dormitory.

Her mother, Moira Vilisoni Raduva, who is also an ex-scholar, said her daughter wanted to help her school sisters.

“The fire did not just affect the 17 students. It affected the whole school and the whole community which is the ACS extended family,” Ms Raduva said.

“As parents we’ve tried our best to counsel them. We talked about what it’s like to lose personal belongings in a fire and one of the things we encourage our girls to do is to come up with ideas on how they can help.

“This is one of the things they believe that can help the 17 boarders. Our daughters wanted it to be a collective activity for everybody so that is why we have a carton here at the Pacific House in Butt Street, Suva.

“We are not obligating anyone. It is out of the heart which is out of generosity. We are here to help one another.”

Ms Raduva said they were hoping to expand the drive to all the ACS boarders.

“This is also one way we can teach our children that giving is a gift and that no matter how much you give it will always come back,” she said.

“This is not only for the 17 girls but we are looking to expand it to the rest of the boarders and these are essentials that they need every day. We are grateful to the old girls, family and friends who have come to donate and assist us.”

You can drop off your donations at Pacific House, Ground floor at Butt Street.
