David Aitcheson and Litia Tikoisuva will lead the national lawn bowls team. Coach Maurice Symes made the confirmation after the two-day trials at the Nadi Sports and Social Club yesterday.

The former NZ rep was thrilled with Aitcheson and Tikoisuva for their roles as skips in various events.

“The ultimate aim is to be selected for the 2020 World Bowls. The process is to try to mould a team that has been selected and if that does not happen then we have to reselect and will be further trials.” He named a 10-strong Bowls Fiji team, comprising five male players and five females for the 2019 Asia Pacific Games on Australia’s Gold Coast on June 18-28.

The next event is the Pacific Games in Samoa in July 4-15. “The team has been named and we had two good days of bowls. Bowlers turned up from Suva and Nadi. The green played well and the result showed better,” Symes said.

“I still believe that we have a lot to do in a winning team at least we know who the players are. It is my job now to take the team forward and bring medals for Fiji in two months.

So Long Caucau

During the trial the team also observed one minute silence in memory of former national rep Caucau Turagabeci who died on March 3 after a short illness.

“I have been privileged to play against Caucau him on many occasions. He was one of the colourful and respected players that played for Fiji.”

Team: (men) Rajinesh Prasad, Kaushal Pillay, David Aitcheson, Semesa Naseruvati, Abdul Khalim.

Women: Sheryl Mar, Radhika Prasad, Loretta Kotoisuva, Litia Tikoisuva, Doreen O’Connor.
