Afamily of seven children is homeless after their two-bedroom house at Nabekavu, Labasa was destroyed in a fire on Sunday.

Sitiveni Nakara, 53, a yaqona farmer said he was unable to send six of his children to school because all their belongings got burned.

“I was at a nearby village preaching during a church service and my wife and kids were attending a church service at a different location when the incident happened,” Mr Nakara said.

“We received messages around 12:15pm that the house was on fire.

By the time we reached home only a small part of kitchen was left.”

When asked what would be the approximate cost of damage, Asinate Drika said they wouldn’t know because they worked through so many years collecting things slowly.

“My eldest son attends Naleba Youth and my youngest child is in Year One,” Mrs Drika said.

“We are staying at my brother’s place hoping we will receive some form of assistance so that we can once again start life and send our children to school. “We contacted the National Fire Authority and Police, but it was too late so they came yesterday to carry out the investigations.”

She said they didn’t know the cause of fire.

The family can be contacted on mobile number 9858418.
