Atotal number of 169 Fijian peacekeepers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) departed from the Nadi International Airport for Sinai on a chartered flight yesterday.
The military officers, who boarded an Australian Air Force Aircraft, are going as part of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO). Among the emotional family members ,who were at the airport to bid farewell to their loved ones, was eight-year-old Mereosi Sedre.
Her father, Private Josua Sedre is part of the group of peacekeepers who will be in the Sinai for peacekeeping duties for an entire year.
Private Sedre’s wife, Siteri Nasau said Mereosi found it hard to let go off her father since she is very close to him.
“She told me she will miss her father very much because he always spoils her.”
Ms Nasau said it was also an emotional moment for her to bid farewell to her husband.
She said prayers and communication through social media would be two vital areas that the two had planned to continuously rely on while being apart.
“We prayed as a family before he left and I am fully supporting him all the way through,” she said. “This will also be our first Christmas without him this year.”
Outside the aircraft to bid farewell and provide moral support were the RFMF Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto and the Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes.
