Lautoka group remembers Christchurch victims
Agroup of individuals from different faiths gathered at the Patisserie Pacifica at TappooCity in Lautoka to be part of a letterwriting vigil to remember the 50 Christchurch shooting victims in New Zealand.
The letter-writing vigil, which was led by human rights lawyer, Sabrina Iqbal Khan, involved group members from different religions, note down their emotions on the terrorist attack at the Al Noor Mosque and the Linwood Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand last week.
Ms Khan said the vigil allowed the individuals to comfort each other because each person in every Pacific Island country was affected by the deadly terrorist attack.
“A large group from different faiths gathered to send letters to the Al Noor Mosque, the Linwood Mosque, the Islamic Federation of New Zealand and The Ministry of Education in Christchurch as well as the Lautoka Mosque,” she said.
“Our letters had to recognise all those who have been affected by this senseless act of terror.
“This includes, but is not limited to, the two mosques and members of their congregation, our local Lautoka mosque and the New Zealand Islamic Federation because all mosques have shut their doors nationally.
“And to the Ministry of Education in Christchurch because their schools have also been closed as a result of this unfortunate incident.”
She said it was important to reach out to each other during such times to help others.
“It is important to remind them that we serve a mighty God, to put love first and to remain strong. Kia Kaha,” Ms Khan said.
