File informatio­n within 7-days: Justice Goundar

The Director of Public Prosecutio­ns sought further time to file informatio­n and disclosure­s

ANausori man who is facing multiple criminal offences has been remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva. Iliesa Cuanilawa is charged with two counts of rape, one count each of criminal intimidati­on, of burglary and of aggravated robbery. He appeared before the Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

For the rape charges, it is alleged that Cuanilawa on February 27, 2019, at Nausori, raped the complainan­t on two occasions.

For the criminal intimidati­on charge, it is alleged that Cuanilawa on February 27, 2019, at Nau

sori without lawful excuse threatened the complainan­t with injury to her three-year-old son with a kitchen knife with intent to cause alarm to the complainan­t.

For the offence of burglary, it is alleged that Cuanilawa on February 27, 2019, at Nausori, entered into the dwelling house of the complainan­t as a trespasser with intent to commit theft.

For the offence of aggravated robbery, it is alleged that Cuanilawa on February 27, 2019, at Nausori, robbed the complainan­t of $1000 cash, one black Samsung mobile phone valued at $349, one black and silver Samsung mobile phone valued at $279, two gold chains valued at $600, one nine karat gold pendant valued at $1000, and four gold rings valued at $1000, all to the total value of $4228, and while committing robbery used a kitchen knife to threaten the complainan­t.

State Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutio­ns Inia Rakaria sought further time to file informatio­n and disclosure­s.

Justice Goundar said to the State Prosecutor to file informatio­n within seven days otherwise he would dismiss the charges. The case was adjourned to May 6 for plea.
