Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has expressed his gratitude to the general public for taking the right steps in allowing law and order to take its course.

In a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC), the Prime Minister stated that “despite the criminal activities caused by a minority group last week provoking civil unrest, I believe that we Solomon Islanders are a peace-loving people and what happened must not define who we are”.

He further extends his gratitude to the national leaders from both sides of Parliament, chiefs and community elders, for

making the right decision to work together with the respective authorities in the effort to maintain law and order while also promoting peace and unity which is fundamental to moving our country forward. He also acknowledges the National Leaders from both sides of the Parliament for supporting the government to continue with its business of serving the country.

Mr Sogavare further conveys his gratitude to the members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) for their effort to work tirelessly day and night to ensure safety for the people, and for their commitment to conduct their duty in a professional manner to ensure law and order is restored.

He stated that the RSIPF has truly showed its standing as one of the best police forces in the Pacific region and deserve formal recognition for their calibre of professionalism.

Whilst some of Ministers have taken their oath last week, it is expected that the remaining portfolios will be allocated without delay after completing deliberations amongst members of the four parties the Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement (DCGA).
