Lee targets Sheraton Classics

Nadi based- profession­al golfer Sam Lee is confident of doing well at the Sheraton Golf Classics that gets underway at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club today.

Lee who is fresh from winning the 2019 Vuksich and Borich Fiji Golf Open Championsh­ip last weekend. He has also claimed the 2019 Rum and Co Fiji Pro-Am.

“I didn’t make many mistakes over the weekend, only had one bogey so all my birdies have been scored,” he said.

“That was a good preparatio­n for this week and will be a test at Natadola

where it can be tough with the wind.”

On his final round at the Fiji Open last Sunday, he said, “I started off really well, birdied first three holes.

“I felt comfortabl­e having five shot lead and also playing with Roneel

“I felt like playing a casual round of golf. I played very steady and scored well on the front nine. “Only had one birdie on the last nine holes.

“I want to thank my family and friends for the support and also to my sponsor Vuksich and Borich. Also to Amitesh Chandra for managing the golf tournament and the Green keeping team.”

Marriott Fiji Resorts director of marketing, Karyn Sutton confirmed the total prize purse this year is $130,000.

“There are 236 players. There are 59 teams of four players who play over four days at both DGRC and Natadola Bay Golf Championsh­ip Golf course,” she said.

Some notable winners include Michael Hendry, Pieter Zwart and Ryan Fox who have won twice. Gareth Paddison and Brad Shilton are also key players that will battle the locals such as Tomasi Tuivuna and school teacher Roneel Prakash. The tournament ends on Saturday.
