Farewell Waki

- WAISEA NASOKIA NADI -Edited by Osea Bola

Former rugby reps and relatives gathered to farewell former national 7s and Nadi rep Penisoni Waki at Yavuna Village outside Nadi town on Friday.

Fiji Rugby Union development manager Sale Sorovaki said the late Waki continued to hold rugby close to his heart on and off the field.

“He was among the FRU match commissioners based in the Western Division.

“He is the big boss on the game day. He has been serious about his job. He does not show it but we felt his importance. Rugby does teach us a lot of things.”

Sorovaki added Waki was also a liaison officer for overseas teams mainly Japan during their tour to Fiji.

“I met him in Suva during the Pacific Nations Cup just like previous years and he was always the liaison for Team Japan.

“The Japanese team only asked for him whenever they come to Fiji. They are always fond of him and likewise and only Waki knows that.”

He played both rugby and football for Nadi.

Waki collapsed at his workplace and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nadi Hospital, on June 1. He was 52. He is survived by seven children.
