Alini Korovulavula, 19, will be advocating on Quality Education at this year’s Nadi Bula Festival. Quality Education is one of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goal. It is identified as SDG 4. Alini is sponsored by Simba Amusement.

The Year 13 student of Ratu Navula College said: “It basically talks about gender discrimination or gender inequality which still exists in our society.

“Because of culture, women are mostly treated unfairly but this is changing and I hope to bring more light to the issue.

“I’m stepping out of my comfort zone. This means that I get to analyse myself, see my capabilities and work on my weaknesses.

“The Nadi Bula Festival Trust is a good charity organisation and it has transformed girls to groom themselves for the public and for their individual future,” she added. The soft-spoken lady from Sabeto encourages youths of Fiji to, “follow your heart but make sure you trust God and have the right motive to pursue your dreams.”

She wants to become a nurse and later pursue a career as a dietician. She said her career path was mapped out when through her childhood experience.

“My aunt chose to leave school at Year 12 to look after my grandmother who was diabetic,” she said.

“I was brought up by my aunt so I witnessed what she went through with my grandmother. She motivates and inspire me throughout my childhood.

“I like to take care of people especially when they are hurt and I hope to do so in the future,” she added.

The weeklong festival begins on July 27 with the crowning on August 3 at Koroivolu Grounds and Prince Charles Park. Edited by Ranoba Baoa
