Waibuta calls it a day after 33 years in civil service

The Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, Saimoni Waibuta, has called on staff members of the ministry to protect iTaukei tradition and culture. Mr Waibuta made the comment while being traditiona­lly farewelled by ministry staff when he officially retired after 33 years in Government service.

Mr Waibuta, originally from Burebasaga Village in Rewa, called on ministry staff to be faithful in whatever tasks they were given. He was a school teacher and worked for the Ministry of Education before he was posted to the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs in 2015.

His first posting as a teacher was to the Assemblies of God High School, Nasinu, in 1986.

He was the assistant principal of Sila Central School in Nausori from 2002–2004 before he was posted to the ministry in 2005 as Senior Education Officer, Research and Developmen­t.

In 2008 he was the Principal Education Officer, Research and Developmen­t; in 2011 he was the Divisional Education Officer,

Northern Division, and in 2012 he was the Director Asset Monitoring Unit.

In 2014 he was Acting Deputy Secretary for Education, Ministry of Education, overseeing the following Sections: Primary Education; Secondary Education; Asset Monitoring Unit; Fiji Teachers Registrati­on Authority and Post Processing Unit.

As Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, Mr Waibuta’s duties included overseeing and providing advisory roles to: „ iTaukei Institute of Language and Culture; „ iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission;

„ iTaukei Lands Appeals Tribunal; „ Corporate Services Division; and „ Developmen­t Services Division. Edited by Epineri Vula
