Mr Kumar was taken aback when he heard a defeaning crash sound in front of his porch and found a 12-wheeler at his doorstep. Rewind to three minutes earlier, the 50-year-old man who lives in Namaka, Nadi, with his family said he was standing at the same spot where the truck came to an

The assistant financial controller of the Castaway Island Resort said the incident happened around 2.30am.

“I am very much counting my lucky stars I guess. It would have hit me straight just three minutes earlier,” he said.

“I have never encountered such an incident over the past 32 years while staying here. If it was not for the coconut tree I would have been dead by now.

“It was about 2.30am I woke up and it just started to rain so I came outside the house as it was getting warm inside. opened the door for fresh breeze then I went back inside.

“Just after few minutes, I heard something like a truck coming into my compound; it sounded as if it was dragging something.” Mr Kumar then came out of the house and saw three men jump out of the truck with the driver who got stuck but managed to free himself.

According to Police, the same vehicle was allegedly involved in reckless driving along the same route and damaged a few road signs and a lamp post near McDonald’s in Saunaka.

Police and the Land Transport Authority are investigating the matter.
