Visitors arrival up for the month of June, says Fiji Bureau of Statistics
Visitors numbers were up in June.
So says the Fiji Bureau of Statistics in their recent provisional visitors arrivals report.
The number showed 85, 652 visitors arriving into the country, representing an increase of 4.9 per cent as compared to a year earlier.
Fiji’s usual markets Australia, New Zealand, United States of America, Japan, United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Rest of Asia showed increased arrivals. While countries like China, Canada and South Korea declined.
The report further indicated that from January to June 2019, visitors arrivals increased by 6.1 per cent over the corresponding period in 2018, up from 383, 982 to 407, 495.
Visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 74.8 per cent of total arrivals, 10.1 per cent came to visit their friends and family, 3.3 per cent came business purposes, while 11.8 per cent visited Fiji for other reasons.
In the moving twelve-monthly numbers ending June 2019, Fiji Bureau of Statistics showed that total
number of visitors to Fiji increased by 4.6 per cent with the same in 2018.
Japan showed the highest increase of visitors arrival on a twelvemonthly basis with 171.8 per cent.
Together with this, Rest of Asia increased by (11.5 per cent), Continental Europe (7.1 per cent), USA (7 per cent), New Zealand (6.9 per cent), UK (4.1 per cent) and Australia (1.4 per cent). Decreases were recorded for visitors from South Korea (8.5 per cent), China (1.5 per cent), Pacific Island (1.0 per cent) and other countries (0.9 per cent).
