BLACKROCK CAMP TO HOUSE REGIONAL POLICE ACADEMY
Strategies are in place by relevant authorities to develop the Blackrock Military Camp in Nadi to also house the Regional Police Academy. The proposal was mentioned by the Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs, Inia Seruiratu yesterday. Mr Seruiratu said there was a consideration for the academy to be developed in Fiji.
“It is still in the planning stages and we also have the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Police Commissioners speaking about it. I know there was some consideration for the academy to be in Fiji as well,” he said.
“Right now as we speak, Blackrock Camp is under construction. There is a strong option as well to have the Regional Police Academy to be located within the same area.
“But we have to first talk with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces top brass.”
He said there was a mention in Parliament on consideration of occupying the Blackrock camp instead of constructing a brand new academy.
“I’ve mentioned this in Parliament, the opportunity for us to consider that being the base for the Regional Police Academy as well rather than constructing a new one,” Mr Seruiratu said.
