Asish Sharma of Muanivatu Settlement, Vatuwaqa is requesting for more Police patrols in the area after his home was broken into yesterday.

The incident happened at around 2.30am.

The 28-year-old said the incident was nothing new for the settlement and that a couple of other houses have also been broken into in recent months.

“I have been living here for about 15 years and this is the third time that we have been robbed,” Mr Sharma said.

“They took two phones which combined were worth more than $2000.

“The last time they took my sister’s laptop.”

He said the burglar removed the louvers from their kitchen window and entered the house.

The burglar was only able to take the two phones when Mr Sharma’s sister woke up and the person ran away through the back door which he had opened beforehand in case he needed a quick escape.

“I went to the Raiwaqa Police Station straightway, they came and searched around the area with the Police dog,” Mr Sharma said. He suspected a neighbour, who lives a few houses away and he had given the Police the information.

He said the officers had taken fingerprints from his house and he hoped the culprit would be caught soon.

“I request the Police to patrol more in this area,” Mr Sharma said. “There are more than 300 houses in this settlement. The Police do patrol, but from the main road whereas things are going on inside, so it would be helpful if they made rounds inside the settlement as

well.”

He added they felt safer when they had the Suva Point Police Post in operation.

“Officers used to come to the settlement and walk around and that gave us assurance” Mr Sharma said.

“It would be good if we can have a Police Post nearby.” The case is under Police investigation.
