Principal, students say thank you to old scholars

- SHREEYA VERMA Edited by Percy Kean

The principal and students of Ballantine Memorial School (BMS) are grateful to former students who donated five desktop computers and two laptops to the school last week.

School principal, Miriama Naicugucugu thanked the old scholars for their dedication to enhance student’s education through their generous contribution.

“The computers the old girls donated will be used by students in the lab. The laptops are useful for

both teachers and students especially in accessing projectors,” Mrs Naicugucugu said.

The ex-students of the all-girls school in Delainavesi are members of the Cal Alumni Association in California, United States of America, where they connected with former classmates to make a difference in current students’ lives. The husband of an old scholar from the association, Miti Naikatini, in handing over the donation, said the members had collected money for a long time in order to assist their ex-school.

“Eight girls from different batches have donated computers with a nostalgic purpose,” he said.

“They believe their children will go to the same school and students should have facilities for better education.”

The school manager, Livai Tila praised the Cal Alumni Association for its gesture in donating educational equipment to the school. “The school is thankful to the girls for thinking about their younger sisters,” he said. “They were educated at the school a long time ago yet they still show affection to the instituion. May God bless them.”

Ex-students from Fiji also donated three computers to the Ballantine Memorial School (BMS) library. Principal, Mrs Naicugucugu said local former students also had their own voluntary group called Ballantine Ex-students Association (BESA).

The members of BESA have regular communication with the school to provide assistance just like the girls did from the USA.
