Starting a charity organisation to assist the 53 residents at the Golden Age Home in Lautoka will be a priority for newly crowned, Miss Bula, Alini Korovulavula.

Together with her fellow contestants they plan to form a charity organisation to raise funds for the residents at the Golden Age Home. In the humble surroundings of her family home at Sabeto Village in Nadi yesterday, the Year 13 student of Ratu Navula College, said being at the frontline of those who crave for love and care was what she was always passionate about. The confident young lass, who hails from Nabudrou, Noco in Rewa, said the idea came about when the 11 contestants visited the residents of the Golden Age Home on July 23.

“The charity work will involve conducting community work and fundraisings for the residents there,” the 19-year-old student said.

“We thought that we have a two months break then we will start with the charity work because

some of the girls have exams in the coming weeks.”

She said her win would inspire young girls to enter the pageant in the coming years.

“My winning the crown will inspire other girls to try out the platform that I went through and this will also help them to come out from their comfort zones.”

Alini hopes to further her studies next year at the Fiji School of Medicine in Suva.

An emotional mother, Paulini Korovulavula, said it was only through the support of Alini’s friends, family and prayer that she was able to scoop the main award of the night.

“We came through so many trials and whatever prayers we did as a family was all for Alini,” Mrs Korovulavula said.

“We had shed tears of joy after hearing her name announced last night (Saturday night) as Miss Bula and we only knew this was through God.”

Alini is the eldest of three girls in the Korovulavula family.
