Pro-life protesters block Sydney street ahead of crucial abortion debate

Fiji Sun - - Aust/nz News - Sydney:

Pro-choice and pro-life activists have faced off in rival rallies, blocking Sydney’s Macquarie Street outside the NSW Parliament ahead of a debate on a bill to decriminalise abortion in the state. The private member’s bill was expected to be debated in the lower house yesterday afternoon and would overturn 119-year-old laws making abortion a criminal offence, replacing them with a standalone health care act to regulate the procedure.

Several dozen pro-life protesters said they wanted to remind everyone “that we are supportive of the right to safe, legal and accessible abortion for all”.
