FijiCare Insurance Limited yesterday launched Fiji’s first insurance mobile app which will allow its customers to access their personal insurance details on their mobile phones.

The company also launched its new live website.

FijiCare chairman Avi Raju while launching the app with Managing Director Peter McPherson said this was more than just an app to market their products, but an app that would create an ecosystem to not only lower the cost of insurance down but also assist in the fight against Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Assurance

Mr Raju also assured customers that the app was highly secured against hacking and that all care had been taken as a lot of personal information, particularly on one’s health and policy will be on one’s mobile phone.

“FIL was more than just a medical insurance company as they have other products under the General Insurance License including the latest WageCare which is a first for Fiji.

“Insurance companies globally are very conservative about how they run their business,” he said. “The insurance sector has realised that they also need to change with the times, because if they don’t as an industry they will be left behind. “For FijiCare we want to be the leader in that area – not only in Fiji and the Pacific.”

Market

He said: “We believe we have set an advantage in the market in decision making which we are in and will allow us to make fast decisions.”

Technology provider

Mr Raju added that FijiCare was currently working with international company FINTEC, who are technology providers for the introduction of innovative digital solutions and insurance products.

“Our digitisation started around September 2018 and we wanted to be the leader in digitisation and also use technology in the insurance sector and also to improve the lives of people.

“When you hit that strategy it is not just a matter of coming up with an app or website but a lot of components that go on in the back to build an ecosystem where you can build multiple things to it.”

System

Mr Raju said this included an overhaul of FijiCare’s back-end system including underwriting and claims. “The system will allow us many vital business intelligence, not only of our insurance business but the health of the nation.

“We have 150,000 clients so it allows us to collect data and see what is happening to their health.”

Mr Raju said the pay out to over 60,000 clients annually was an indication of the large data base FijiCare has.

Website

He said: “This revamped website and new mobile app is Phase One of FijiCare’s investment into its Information Systems and Digital Platforms.”

Phase Two, to be launched in six months’ time, will enable the integration of FijiCare’s new mobile app with fitness wearable devices as well as with wellness and prevention programmes.

Using technology, the company looks to combat the growing problem of non-communicable diseases in Fiji, leading to a reduction in healthcare and medical insurance costs.

The new app allows FijiCare policy holders to have online access to their policy information, claims history, updates and their Insurance eCard.

It would also contain the doctors, pharmacies and emergency numbers just by clicking on whichever one you may want to call.

Investor friendly

A major feature of the new website is FijiCare the company’s full details, including financials could sourced through the app.

“We are a publicly listed company and generally you will find websites of many public listed companies in terms of investor relations as being very poor or non-existent.”

FijiCare has included an investor related section on the website which has all information on the company from corporate governance to finance and management.

It will also include a live feed from the South Pacific Stock Exchange (SPX) on FijiCare’s financial performance.

“I don’t see why investors have to wait till the end of the year to know all this.”

Real time information

Another important feature is the real time information to policy holders’ insurance brokers. “Our new digital platforms will allow policy holders access to their own pertinent policy and claims information anytime and anywhere in real-time.

“This will not only improve our service to our clients, but also improves our processing efficiency between the company, policy holders and our service providers,” said Mr Raju said.

Previously a visit to a medical centre would take time while a check is made on one’s insurance details. “We are launching something that puts a stop to that where a policy holder can show the doctor what their policy status is on their phone.”

Mr Raju said the App was available on Android’s Google Play Store and soon through Apple’s App Store. The FijiCare insurance webisite is: www.fijicare.com.fj
