The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Engineers have pulled out from Koro Island after completing two farm roads and their Tropical Cyclone clean up. This was confirmed by operations officer, Captain Viliame Kolinisau yesterday.

He said the 11 sappers ably led by Sergeant (Sgt) Rajeshwar Prasad completed the two-kilometre road to Bucabuca and the 1.6-kilometre road to Sosobalavu Hill on July 25.

Sgt Prasad, also known in the RFMF Engineers as Vueta, said his team had done excellent work despite the number of drawbacks.

“Unfortunately we did not meet the timeframe to complete the work, but we managed to do the task properly and accurately in order to meet the Government standard of infrastructure and road works at the farming site,” he said.

He said that the delay in the road works was due to the rainy weather; the inconsistency of the boat schedule for the transportation of fuel and the breakdown of machines. However, he said that did not lower the morale of his team.

The team also demolished 48 houses that were damaged by Cyclone Winston in 2016.

He also expressed his appreciation on the enormous contribution from Nasau villagers.

“I would like to thank the people of Nasau for the support made in terms of accommodation, the food they offered and the helpfulness they offered in order for us to achieve our mission.”

Nasau Village headman Kilioni Uluiviti said that the RFMF Engineers had done a big job in the construction of the village foot bridge, the demolishing of houses damaged by Cyclone

Winston and the upgrade of the twofarm roads which would assist them in their daily lives.

He conveyed his thanks to the RFMF Engineers’ for the job well done. Villager, Mr Mosese Qionibaravi said that previously, they would find difficulty trekking up the hill on rainy weather. Now they can travel by vehicle in the morning as well in the afternoon.
