National Narcotics Bill to Be Launched Soon
The National Narcotic Bureau Bill will be launched in Parliament soon. This was announced by the Minister for Defence and National Security Inia Seruiratu, in Parliament yesterday.
He said the Bill would help address the issue of hard drugs in Fiji.
Mr Seruiratu said the Bill was going through consultation processes and he hoped it would be completed before the next Parliament sitting.
He said the Government was serious about the issue of drugs in the country and it was doing all it had to do to address it.
He also highlighted that another Bill that would soon be launched was the National Security Strategy Bill, which would apply to all the 17 border agencies in the country.
He urged all Members of Parliament to support these bills when it came into play.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama also reassured that the Government had zero tolerance on anyone that violated the law of the country. He said the Government remained vigilant of the new and emerging patterns of illegal drug use and it was now working on a National Framework, the National Narcotic Strategy which would guide the Government in addressing the issue.
Mr Bainimarama said enforcement agencies like the Fiji Police Force, the Fiji Navy and Customs Border officials would be engaged in these capacity building.
