Kumar scoops Letter of the Week prize
Regular contributor to our daily open column, Dharmendra Kumar, of Rewa Street, Suva, is the letter of the week winner for August.
Mr Kumar received his prize from Courts Suva branch yesterday. Mr Kumar, 53, has been writing to the Fiji Sun for three years now. This is the fifth time he has been named letter of the week winner.
“Whenever I see that there’s an issue then I write. I always believe you need to be vocal. If you see any issue you must write about it rather than keep silent,” he said.
His winning letter “It starts at home” is about his perspective on issues affecting today’s society.
“It’s more on a spiritual angle and I strongly believe that if you don’t have a strong foundation then you won’t have a strong structure,” Mr
Kumar said.
“When parents and the church build a strong foundation for children spiritually by putting God first, things will fall into place.”
He added the blame-game on the Government and churches was not the solution because everything started at home from a young age. “We must be vocal and voice our opinions. You don’t know, one of these letters could help someone,” he said.
Mr Kumar thanked the Fiji Sun for providing the opportunity for people to voice their opinions on issues affecting today’s society. He encouraged others to write letters to the paper because it would be a platform where an individual’s opinion and concern could reach the Government and the churches.
