Australian politician Pauline Hanson asks for ‘anti-white racism’ examples, gets trolled
Canberra: Australian politician Pauline Hanson tried to use the power of Twitter to prove a point. On Thursday the hashtag
#WakeUpToRacism was trending on Twitter. The One Nation leader claimed it was being used by a “Twitter mob” in a bid to have her removed from the platform - or “deplatformed”, as she put it. So she attempted to divert the conversation and asked people to “share your experiences of antiwhite racism”.
“I think we can turn their hashtag into a force for good,” she tweeted.
“Anti-white racism is often ignored because victims remain silent but it’s important the truth get out.”
Her tweet and the hashtag
#WakeUpToRacism received a lot of attention, but from many who found her request humorous. Many uses turned to sarcasm to express their concerns and views towards “anti-white racism”. ”Gelato queue too long = #AntiWhiteRacism,” one user commented.
“One time, I angrily yelled at someone ‘DO YOU KNOW WHO MY FATHER IS?’ And they didn’t know,” another wrote.
“I walked into a supermarket and the security guard didn’t follow me around,” another said. For many years, Hanson voiced her feelings towards Australia’s immigration policies. In 1996, she said in federal parliament “we are in danger of being swamped by Asians”; in 2016, she said migrants who go to Australia but fail to assimilate should “go back to where you came from”, and in 2017 she entered the Senate chamber wearing a black burqa in a bid to get it banned.
