Nasinu Netters Crowned IDC Champs
The Nasinu netball team won the Punjas/Digicel Interdistrict Championship after defeating NEWWORLD IGA Suva 36-34 at the National Netball Centre yesterday.
Fijian Pearls and Celtic Dragons defender Adi Bolakoro played in her first IDC and said winning was an amazing experience.
“I’m happy with the standard and it’s amazing seeing the talents on display at the IDC.
“Playing in my first IDC, it’s amazing to see the crowd, the atmosphere out here,” Bolakoro said.
The British Army soldier combined well with Nasinu goalkeeper Episake Kahatoka. “We played together, we knew each other but credit to all the Nasinu players for their hard work,” Bolakoro said.
PRESSURE
Suva goalshooter Matelita Vocea said the pressure from the crowd put them under pressure in the last minute.
“We didn’t push to the end because it was a close game. “There was a lot of noise coming from the crowd and we lost the momentum,” Vocea said.
STRONG START
Defending champions Suva had a strong start in the first quarter as they were able to counter Nasinu shooters Lydia Panapasa and Unaisi Rauluni.
Suva defender and Fijiana 7s rep Reijieli Daveiua was outstanding causing turnovers which allowed Suva to lead 9-7 in the first quarter. Rauluni, Panapasa, Bolakoro, Kahatoka and former rep Alesi Waqa lifted the intensity in the second quarter for the team to draw 17-17 at halftime. Nasinu maintained consistency in the third and final quarter as they were able to control mid court area led by Waqa while Bolakoro and Kahatoka kept on causing turnovers from the defence circle to lead 29-28 at the end of the third quarter and 3634 at fulltime.
