Family, friends mourn death of air crash victim
The family and friends of a Fijian trainee pilot, who did not survive a light airplane crash in South Africa, are in mourning. The fatal incident happened on Saturday near the Hartbeespoort Dam, west of Akasia in the North West, where the 27-year-old Steven Dallas Alfred Lee and a collegue were found dead.
“To friends and especially my family. I ask for your prayers for the repose of the soul of my grandson,” said his grandmother, Elizabeth Giblin McLaren.
The late Mr Lee is the second son of Lynne and retired Fiji Airways captain Lindsey Lee. Mr Lee’s former colleagues at TraSeable Solution where he was among the start-up team also posted on their page on Tuesday: “It’s with great sadness, yet fond memories, that we remember one of TraSeable’s earliest team members Steven Lee.” According to TraSeable, the late Mr Lee was a passionate marine scientist, promising academic with numerous contributions to publications, avid spear fisherman, adventurous soul, and all-round great guy.
“He joined our team as we started our journey in 2017 and contributed immensely with his research and writing skills, attention to detail, and work with fishing companies to test our early product,” the post stated.
“Our team and product is better for having had Steven on our team before he left for South Africa.
“When Steven interviewed with us, he shared one of his dreams with us and we’re glad to have at least fulfilled it while he was with us - to go to sea on a fishing trip on a longline fishing vessel.”
