The Ministry of Agriculture has called on more investments in the agricultural sector that will help reduce natural disaster risks. Principal Agriculture Officer Vinesh Kumar was speaking at the International Symposium on Renewable Energy, Environment and Climate Change at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi on Wednesday. In doing so, he said the urgency to scale up climate actions in the agriculture sector was greater than ever. He said while climate change was evidently affecting the sector, it was vital for investment to take place. “Land degradation and desertification with projected increase in extremely high daily temperature and more severe drought conditions, land degradation will escalate and dry lands will be more prone to desertification. “It’s already evident in parts of Tavua, Nadi and Rakiraki.”
