Man, 20, charged with murder of USP student placed on remand
A20-year-old man who is facing one charge of murder charge has been remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.
Saula Temo has been charged with one count of murder of 23-year-old University of the South Pacific student, Akuila Salavuki, in May 2018.
A bench warrant was issued for Temo to be arrested.
The court had heard that Temo was released from the remand centre on another matter, while facing the murder charge.
Temo is alleged to have hit Mr
Salavuki’s head with a piece of timber and as a result of that conduct caused Mr Salavuki’s death.
On May 17, 2018, it is alleged that Temo was dancing with Salavuki at a popular Suva nightclub after which they left the club together and were allegedly seen walking hand in hand near the foreshore behind the Fiji Development Bank building.
Salavuki was found lying in a pool of blood by two men the next day. Temo was arrested after weeks of investigation.
Temo will reappear in court on September 24.
