Man, 20, charged with mur­der of USP stu­dent placed on re­mand

A20-year-old man who is fac­ing one charge of mur­der charge has been re­manded in cus­tody by the High Court in Suva.

Saula Temo has been charged with one count of mur­der of 23-year-old Univer­sity of the South Pa­cific stu­dent, Akuila Salavuki, in May 2018.

A bench war­rant was is­sued for Temo to be ar­rested.

The court had heard that Temo was re­leased from the re­mand cen­tre on an­other mat­ter, while fac­ing the mur­der charge.

Temo is al­leged to have hit Mr

Salavuki’s head with a piece of tim­ber and as a re­sult of that con­duct caused Mr Salavuki’s death.

On May 17, 2018, it is al­leged that Temo was danc­ing with Salavuki at a pop­u­lar Suva night­club af­ter which they left the club to­gether and were al­legedly seen walk­ing hand in hand near the fore­shore be­hind the Fiji De­vel­op­ment Bank build­ing.

Salavuki was found ly­ing in a pool of blood by two men the next day. Temo was ar­rested af­ter weeks of in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

Temo will reap­pear in court on Septem­ber 24.
