Prosecutor: Further Investigations Ongoing on Drugs Conspiracy
The State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has told the High Court in Suva that further investigations are ongoing in relation to a conspiracy of alleged illicit drugs.
Prosecutor Juleen Fatiaki told this to Judge Justice Daniel Goundar in the case of a 32-year-old farmer who is alleged to have murdered a New Zealand national in May this year.
Rusiate Sogotubu Raiwalui appeared before Justice Goundar yesterday, represented by lawyer Filimoni Vosarogo. Raiwalui is facing one count of murder.
It is alleged that on May 8, 2019, at Qeleya Road in Lami, Suva, Raiwalui murdered New Zealand national Ashkan Farsani Rikthegazader. Mr Rikthegazader was a businessman involved in the export of agricultural produce.
He was found near the Accident and Emergency Ward with stab wounds and attempts by medical personnel to revive him proved futile.
Mr Rikthegazader was seen being dropped off in a silver-grey Prius, which was later found abandoned at Tacirua, Suva.
Mr Rikthegazader was staying at a hotel in Suva and was identified by a friend.
Ms Fatiaki told the court that she had filed and served further disclosures in the matter.
She also told the court that in relation to any other possible charges, further investigations were ongoing in relations to the conspiracy of alleged illicit drugs.
She sought for four weeks to advise the court on the same as the investigations were ongoing. The matter has been adjourned for pre-trial conference to October 25.
Raiwalui has been further remanded in custody
