Police are reportedly following several leads in their investigations into the gruesome find of five bodies in the Nausori Highlands in an alleged homicide on Monday.

But they said yesterday there was no suspect yet. Circumstances surrounding the case are clouded in mystery. Because of the inhospitable terrain where the bodies were found, there is unconfirmed report that more than one person might have been allegedly involved.

One person alone could not do it. It is understood that the bodies did not have any visible marks of violence being used. It raised the question: “How did they die?” Police have cordoned off the crime scene where the bodies were found in Celekuta, a sightseeing area between Yavuna and Tubenasolo.

Their residence in Legalega has also been cordoned off including their vehicle parked at Votualevu in Nadi.

The vehicle was discovered few hours after the discovery of the bodies.

There was dust in the rims of the tyres. But the intriguing part was how the bodies were dumped.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday confirmed that no person has been taken into custody on the matter.

She brushed aside a broadcast media report yesterday afternoon which said that Police had a suspect in custody.

“Investigators are still gathering information regarding the case and are continuing with the process of interviewing people who may have information regarding the incident,” she said.

“Because this is a case of interest still at this point once a suspect is identified a statement will be released in due course.” Ms Naisoro confirmed that the post mortem examination of the five victims will be conducted this morning.

The toddler remains admitted at the Lautoka Hospital.

“Investigators are trying to gather more information to establish how the victim’s car was found abandoned in Votualevu and are following some possible leads.”
