Nabua tyre shop owner Prasad fears closing business amid theft claims
Two people are in remand following arrests made into allegations of tyre thefts at an outlet in Nabua, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed. Nirendra Prasad of Nabua Tyre Centre, said his tyre shop has been broken into four times this year.
He says if this continues, he fears he may have to make the hard decision of closing his business.
The latest incidents he said in his report occurred on August 9 and August 12. The other two inci- dents occurred in March and July this year.
“They entered through a sidewall and through the roof on separate occasions,” Mr Prasad said. “I have lost more than $7000 from these break-ins. They take tyres, batteries, wiper-blades and compressors.
“I have reported all the break-ins to the Police except for one because I was in Labasa at the time it had happened.
“We are located near to a Police
station, yet this has happened four times?
“I can only ask Police to do more patrolling and to catch the culprits because my business has suffered so much,” Mr Prasad said.
“I have been operating here for the last nine years and only this year, it has started happening.
“One time, I was just thinking of closing the business.
“We make about $10 profit on one tyre, so I have to sell 700 tires to get that $7000. I cannot afford to lose that kind of money just like that.” Ms Naisoro said: “The complainant was given feedback on the progress of the case by the investigating officer of his case on August 12 and that two suspects are already in remand awaiting their court case.”
