Sofitel Fiji Resort Shapes up
The renovation work began in October 2018
Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa’s $50 million refurbishment will certainly set this renowned resort apart from many other resorts in Fiji.
This includes the construction of a new cocktail bar. With just a touch of a button sound proof walls would spring up and turn the place into modern nightclub. The renovation work began in October 2018 which included all 296 rooms, public spaces, additional elements into the Waitui Beach Club, Nui Kid’s Club and new restaurants.
Two family size rooms were being re-done to add to extra rooms.
The resort’s Director Sales and Marketing Michael Bell said works are being carried out in sections and should end mid 2020.
Mr Bell said the most telling times would be from January to March 2020 when the resort’s main front section of the building is taken off for a new-look lobby and reception area.
So far renovations have been completed for two blocks of rooms for the Waitui Beach Club. Mr Bell said everything in the room was brand new and which has attracted a lot of positive feedbacks.
The Waitui Beach Club itself has been renovated with 36 new cabanas set along the beach-front. “We have created a new product called Waitui Plus which includes meet and greet at Nadi International Airport, VIP transfer to the resort with special check in at the club itself.
“We want to complement the island as we get a lot of guests coming back and staying here before and after their trips to the outer islands.
“Waitui caters for that when they return, Waitui will have a similar effect as it has on the island.” “The service here is very personalised.” Mr Bell said between now and Christmas work was being done on the third block which has the luxury rooms. “One of the fortunate things about Sofitel is the hotel is elevated quite high and this allows to enhance the arrival area beginning from when one drives in to the resort.”
He added that the resort’s ballroom was also being renovated and would be one of the most modern with state of the art audio visuals and other equipment.
“At the moment we have put in new carpet and by March it would be all re-done with some of the most advanced audio visual equipment you can find.
“The real concept given to the resort was ‘land meets the sea’ whereby when the lobby would be completed, one would find a lot of brown and green colour depicting the mountain and vegetation.
“When one ventures further into the hotel you will find the colours change to blue and turquoise and this changes to Mediterranean blue and white as you get down to the newly opened Solis seafood restaurant and Rum Shack beside the sea.” Mr Bell said they were working with Fiji Airways, the owners of the resort, to bring in top DJs from New Zealand, Australia, USA and Dubai at least three or four times a year to strut their stuff at the nightclub.
