Nadi Town road fiasco
Dorsami Naidu, Nadi
What is happening in Nadi Town, Namaka, Martintar and the peri urban areas of Nadi that it has become a fiasco?
The number of traffic lights installed or will be installed suggests that somebody out there has a fixed budget for acquisition of these lights and wants to exhaust the same regardless of whether it is practical and help in traffic flow.
At the junction of the Nadi backroad, Andrews Road and Nawaka Road, a large roundabout would be the best solution and far more practical than the huge number of lights, which will play havoc with our drivers. Also, take away the lights on Queens Road opposite the Fiji National University (FNU); the tram line does not have any warning lights or gates, but there are lights further down just for pedestrians. If installation was done to accommodate the railway crossing, would this not have been more sensible?
What about the lights near Rosie Tours/ Mt St Mary’s/Quikstop and again Mountainview junction? Can someone explain the logic of all this?
Again, when one drives down Lodhia Street and Sahukhan St, can this not be turned into double lanes so that traffic flow left and right into Hospital Road and post office road is enhanced and instead of lights a simple roundabout would better assist traffic flow.
The flow of traffic into the Queens Road from Vunavau lane and Korovoilu lane into Queens Road is restricted to a left turn and right turn respectively.
One cannot go into Korovoilu lane across Queens Road from Vunavau lane nor turn right into Queens Road.
Similarly, from Korovoilu lane one cannot turn right into Queens Road.
A roundabout here would be perfect and there would be no need to restrict traffic movement.
Also, allowing people to use Vunavau lane to enter into Baker lane despite there being a no entry sign, I hope it is not because of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and certain other Government offices being located there.
All the concrete islands being put in after the last lot were taken out makes one wonder whose money is being used for this experiment. Nadi Town proper is a bottleneck for traffic.
Then, there are lanes and side streets in Nadi Town, which are more like a horse track, but then I could go on and on.
