Telecom Fiji Limited staff were up early yesterday holding a “Plastic-Free” campaign from Nasese to My Suva Picnic Park. More than a hundred staff members were seen picking rubbish and plastics along the Nasese foreshore with the theme ‘Yes, YOU matter’.

Telecom Fiji chief executive officer Charles Goundar said the initiative was part of the corporation’s social responsibility, which they took seriously.

“This comes from our set of corporate values. What we are saying is that everyone matters, everyone is important to us. Our clients, our customers, our staff and as a whole, the environment itself,” Mr Goundar said.

“As part of our aim of being 100 per cent plasticfree in terms of our waste, we have also instituted a ban on all single-use plastic water bottles within our organisation at any of our premises. All staff members were provided aluminum water bottles for use,” he said.

Telecom hopes that these efforts would contribute towards raising general awareness on the level of environment pollution.
