Farmer charged with murdering wife
A34-year old farmer of Naitasiri appeared at the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday in connection with his wife’s death last Saturday.
Luke Nasetava appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa charged with one count of murder.
It is alleged that Nasetava on August 31, 2019, at Total Office in Walu Bay, Suva, stabbed his wife, Amelia Mafi, several times with a kitchen knife and as a result caused her death. Nasetava was represented by duty solicitor Neha Singh from the Legal Aid Commission. Police prosecutor Woman Sergeant Prathna Devi filed and served full phase disclosures. Magistrate Boseiwaqa said it was an indictable offence and transferred the matter to the High Court in Suva.
He told Nasetava to file and serve any alibi notice if he wished to do so. Magistrate Boseiwaqa remanded Nasetava in custody and said the bail would be decided by the High Court. The matter has been adjourned for First Call at the High Court in Suva on September 17.
