More than 100 Police officers undertook training to enhance their knowledge on drug related issues in the Northern Division.

The training this week was led by the Fiji Police Drug Intelligence Unit, under the guidance of Assistant Superintendent of Police Anare Masitabua.

“The purpose of the programme was to educate all Police officers on drugs,” ASP Masitabua said.

“The first objective of the training is for the officers to understand drugs and its effects, secondly to understand the dangers of these drugs and handling it by understanding the components of it that are there to manufacture drugs.

“With a better understanding of drugs, Police officers will be able to achieve the third objective of this training and that is to

gather information from the community, of who is using it, producing it and selling it. “These are the communities who will want to save their communities, their families and themselves, once they know the truth about drugs.

“That information will then give a whole picture of drug use in Fiji,” he said. Meanwhile, ASP Masitabua said according to the statistics in 2018 there were 1440 drugrelated offenders, but that is not the actual number of the users.

He also said according to reports from NSAAC (National Substance Abuse Advisory Council) under the Ministry of Education, students have also been identified to be involved in drugs.

“We’re going hard on Robust Awareness and focusing on “Cavuraka Operation” this month,” he said.
