Father of Nausori Highlands Victims: How Can I Kill My Own?

- AVINESH GOPAL Edited by Jonathan Bryce

The father of two of the Nausori Highlands victims says he has no grudge against those who are blaming him on social media for their demise.

In fact, Salvin Singh says, he is grateful that they are because it teaches us a lesson on never to trust anybody when it comes to the safety of our children.

At his home in Tomuka, Lautoka, on Tuesday, Mr Singh said he did not blame these keyboard warriors.

The five bodies found on August 26 were of his wife Nileshni Kajal, 34, his daughters Sanah, 11, and Samarah, 8, Nileshni’s parents Nirmal Kumar, 63, and Usha Kumar, 54, of Legalega in Nadi. He and his wife were separated for six years. Mr Singh said: “I’m happy that people are blaming me on social media for the deaths because when it comes to our children’s safety we shouldn’t trust anybody.

“It’s not only about my children because I won’t get them back again, but it’s about all the children of Fiji and their safety.

“It’s often seen through past cases that the family members are the perpetrators in serious crimes. “But how can I kill my own children, my daughters who were my life and the only reason I was working?

“I didn’t have any woman in my life after separating from my wife just because of the love for my two daughters and because she was still mine.” Mr Singh also said that he should not be ruled out as a suspect in the killings, saying that he wanted Police to question him.

“I have been going to the Police because as the father I want to know how investigations are progressing and I may be able to help them too with some information.

“But they just told me to go and relax at home as they were following some leads into the deaths and to let them do their work.

“Honestly, I hate myself. Why is my heart still beating and why am I still alive? I just have the self-blame as to why I am still alive when my daughters whom I was living for are no longer with me,” said Mr Singh
