Talk on self-discipline rang out across Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

The occasion was the passing-out parade for Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Memorial cadets.

The message came out loud and clear from Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Land Force Commander (LFC) Colonel Manoa Gadai that discipline is the core of any cadet training.

It is a pattern of behaviour where you choose to do what you know you should do, rather than what you want to do. Being disciplined gives you the strength to withstand hardships and difficulties, whether physical, emotional or mental.

He shared with the cadets what he meant when he talked about discipline.

Discipline is the core of any cadet training.

He said he always informed his men at the RFMF that the Military is Discipline and Discipline is the Military. As students they have been taught discipline with the cadet training they had undergone.

The aim of the drill is - To produce a cadet who is alert and obedient and to provide the basis of teamwork and discipline.

It is about disciplining them to always listen and obey a command that is given to them, be it in school or at home.

“As members of the Ratu Sukuna Memorial School Cadet Corp Training, I want you to always think about it, talk about it among yourselves, with your peers and your family as a whole,” he said.

In a nutshell, Colonel Gadai said discipline was about doing what was right all the time and every time with a positive mindset and the right attitude.

So with discipline they should be able to withstand the pressure to do what they have always dreamt to be despite all the internal and external pressure.

As students they need to live a disciplined life to be successful in whatever they do.

Be disciplined in your daily activities.

Set a time for studying and for other extra-curricular activities.

At home you set a time to be with your parents. When you live a disciplined life you will also stay away from all illegal activities around your environment. This was the core message from Colonel Gadai

The students will also be good citizens and their neighbours will respect them.

Colonel Gadai congratulated the cadets on parade. Their turnout, drill and bearing were of the highest standard. A study revealed that there were 10 habits of highly disciplined people.

They are committed to whatever task they have accepted or set for themselves. Disciplined people are true to their word.

They Avoid Temptation.

They Take Care of Themselves.

They Work at Developing good Habits.

They Set Boundaries.

They Revel in Routine.

They Lead with Their Mind Over Their Mood. They Clearly Define their Goals.

Discipline is the core of any achievement.
