Death Of Girl, 19, Shocks Residents Of Farming Settlement
Families residing in a farming settlement were still in a state of shock after the body of a female was found at Nabitu, near the Sigatoka River on Friday. And Police said they were were looking for her 24-yearold partner.
The body has been indentified to be that of 19-year-old, Maraia Tauyavu.
She was found motionless near the Sigatoka river by residents on Friday afternoon.
Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro said the victim was last seen and heard arguing with her partner at their home in Nabitu Settlement early Friday morning before she ran off.
There were injuries on her body when she was found. The Fiji Sun team visited the home of the victim’s partner yesterday.
Her partner’s mother, Raijieli Musu, 46, said her son had first brought the young woman home in February. “She was here with him for a while then she went to attend a family funeral in Suva. They were in touch through the mobile phone,” she said.
Ms Musu described Maraia as a “good girl”.
“We were in Suva and she lived here with my son. my son has been living here for the past seven years,” she said.
“We came down and then all this has happened. they had this argument since August 5.”
It is alleged that the partner had intercepted a few messages on social media from Maraia to another person.
Ms Naisoro said Police were still searching for the partner as investigations continued.
