Suwamy shines in Ba’s first win
Veteran Ba defender Avinesh Warran Suwamy was the hero of the Ba Sanatan side as he scored the winning goal against Cuvu in the Shree Sanatan Battle of the Giants final in Nadi yesterday.
Ba won 1-0 to hoist the B.O.G title for the first time.
Ba coach Lalit Kumar said they been training for the last two months.
Suwamy scored the lone goal, 10 minutes into the second half from a free kick. The side had the services of former Tavua goalkeeper Ravinesh Anand Singh, Ravinesh Chand, Shaneel Narayan, Ritik Kumar and Rahul Naresh.
“This is the first time we have roped in young players like Ba Youth rep Ayush Kumar, Nitin Rao and Sahil Prasad who are all under-16 players,” Kumar said. “Competition was really tough. We did not underestimate any team as we took each game one at a time.”
Ba last won the Sanatan IDC in 2012 at Tuva Primary School.
In the B.O.G semi-finals, Ba beat defending champions Nadi 3-1 on penalty shootouts while Cuvu edged out Tuvu 1-0. In the Masters category, Yogesh Prasad scored for defending champion Makoi as they beat Rewa 1-0 to retain the title.
