MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG POSSESSION, THEFT, DAMAGING PROPERTY, GRANTED BAIL

A 43-year-old man who is alleged to have been in possession of marijuana has been granted bail.

Aisake Naulu appeared before Magistrate Seini Puamau during a special court sitting at the Magistrate­s Court in Suva on Monday.

Naulu is charged with one count each of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, of theft and of damaging property.

For the offence of illicit drugs, it is alleged that Naulu on September 6, 2019, at Suva, without lawful authority possessed 3.8 grams of cannabis sativa, an illicit drug.

For the offence of theft, it is alleged that Naulu on March 24, 2019, at Suva, dishonestl­y appropriat­ed (stole) recharge cards valued at $500, two gross of BH10 valued at $285, one gross of BH20 valued at $141.60, $60 cash, all to the total value of $986.60, the property of Uro Takeaway, with intention to permanentl­y deprive the said Uro Takeaway of their property.

For the offence of damaging property, it is alleged that Naulu on March 24, 2019, at Suva, wilfully and unlawfully damaged five chiadin gel valued at $12.50, one glosheen gel valued at $10.95, one bottle of soya bean oil valued at $2.95, one tray of eggs valued at $24, three packet Oreo valued at $8.40, two family assorted cookies valued at $5, 75 ice blocks valued at $45, toilet paper valued at $1.50, all to the total value of $110.30, the property of Uro Takeaway.

Police prosecutor Constable Sitiveni Baleitaveu­ni served the accused with full phase of disclosure­s and also objected to bail on the grounds that the accused had a high chance of reoffendin­g. Magistrate Puamau had granted bail to Naulu on the bail bond sum of $500 and one surety bond of $500.

She ordered the accused not to reoffend while on bail, to reside at a fixed address and not to change his address without the leave of the court, not to interfere with any of the prosecutio­n witnesses, and attend all court dates.

Naulu was also ordered to report to Nabua Police station every Saturday between 5am and 8pm.

The matter was adjourned for plea on November 5.
