Lautoka in IDC ‘pool of death’

Defending Courts Interdistrict Champions Lautoka have been drawn with the likes of Ba and Labasa in this year’s tournament which will be held at Prince Charles Park, in Nadi on October 8. Ba recently topped the Vodafone Premier League points table while Labasa won the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament.
Dubbed the ‘pool of death’, the three top teams will face minnows Tavua as the fourth team.

Division pools also announced that this year’s winner will receive $25,000 in prizemoney.
The other pool will see Nadi, Suva, giant killers Nasinu and Rewa battle it out.
Patel acknowledged Courts 20th year sponsorship of this prestigious tournament in Fiji FA’s calendar. “This is the biggest tournament because fans come from all over the world,” he said.
This year’s tournament begins on Tuesday, October 8, and will run the whole week with the semi-finals for both the premier and senior divisions to be held on Saturday, October 12 and the finals the following day. The weeklong tournament will ensure that there is no break in the tournament.
Tavua will play their final premier tournament and matches in the IDC as from next year they would be relegated with Navua moving up to premier division.
Patel said Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar has assisted with making sure that Prince Charles Park was in top shape for the tournament.
With this year’s premier prizemoney raised to $25,000, the runner-up will receive $6000 with losing semifinalists getting $1000 each.
The winner of the senior division will get $7500, runner-up $2500 and losing semi-finalists $500 each. Courts sponsors the IDC tournament each year with $120,000.
Courts (Fiji) Limited chie executive officer PL Manasinghe said the tournament was the oldest tournament in the country and the company has been providing sponsorship for the past 20 years.
“Courts IDC is one of the most popular and special tournament in Fiji FA’s calendar,” Munasinghe said. “Courts and the IDC have become synonymous.”
