Dad Proud As Son takes oath to Be A Lawyer

- SELITA BOLANAVANUA SUVA

Jekope Railau is a proud father after his son Eminoni Vulalevu, 21, took his oath to be a qualified legal practitioner. Mr Vulalevu was among 23 graduates, who were part of the swearingin ceremony for new barristers and solicitors at the High Court Room Number Two in Suva yesterday. “I can’t really express how happy I am today,” Mr Railau said.

The 54-year-old sugarcane farmer of Ba said he had been supporting his wife and nine children by working tirelessly in their farm.

“My wife and I also sell vegetables and crops to make a living and to ensure that our children attend school,” Mr Railau said.

His wife, Livia Liku, said she was speechless and filled with joy. New lawyer, Mr Vulalevu thanked God for being there for him at all times, especially when he faced hurdles.

He was a science student during his high school days and wanted to be a doctor. However, he did not reach the benchmark needed for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery enrolment.

But, after being offered a place in the University of Fiji’s Law School he has not regretted his decision to join the legal fraternity.

He thanked his parents for their spiritual, financial and moral support.

“I also thank my siblings for all the positive criticism and enabling me to realise the best of me and not forgetting my uncle who has always been there for me in my four years of law school till my admission,” Mr Vulalevu said.

“I made everyone proud and I couldn’t have done it without

them.” Edited by Percy Kean
