‘Let’s practise healthy eating habits, lifestyle’
Fiji is blessed with organic food and marine life and the onus is on us to change our eating habits and lifestyle. These were the words of Vodafone Fiji Limited Head of Enterprises and Development Antonio Kitione while officiating at the opening of the Vodafone Sugar Festival at Churchill Park in Lautoka on Saturday.
He said the theme of the festival resonated with non-communicable diseases which was a critical national issue.
“A nutritious meal-and a healthy nation echoes loud with the changing of eating habits across communities and lifestyle,” he said. “NCDs (non-communicable diseases) have become the biggest killer in Fiji, causing thousands of deaths every year, many of those deaths are premature and are affecting the lives of many more. “We urge members of the public to be resourceful with the wealth of healthy vegetables readily available.
“We have to educate and change our lifestyle to healthy living to add to our years,” he said. Meanwhile, Vodafone Sugar Festival Committee President Pusp Raj said he was confident that there was a good line-up of contestants.
“Contestants will be advocating on issues in their respective communities and the festival itself has produced hundreds of contestants who are now holding good positions in the commercial sectors. It is also beneficial for their future in terms of networking.”
The theme of the festival is Nutritious Meal – Healthy Nation. The crowning will be on Saturday at Churchill Park, Lautoka.
