Hotels’ Owner tells PM of Fiji plans
Warwick group Founder and President Richard Chiu loves Fiji and comes here regularly with his family for holidays
Richard Chiu, the president and founder of Warwick Hotels and Resorts, is interested in expanding in Fiji.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama confirmed this after meeting Mr Chiu in New York over dinner.
In Fiji, Mr Chiu owns the Warwick Fiji Resort & Spa, Naviti Resort and Tambua Sands on the Coral Coast plus Tokatoka Resort Hotel in Nadi. Warwick has hotels and resorts in Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and the South Pacific.
Mr Chiu loves Fiji and comes here regularly with his family for holidays.
Mr Bainimarama said Mr Chiu was going back to his headquarters in France from Denver in the United States when he found out that the PM was in New York.
Mr Chiu travelled to New York and hosted Mr Bainimarama to a dinner.
Previously, Mr Chiu found out that Mr Bainimarama was in Brussels attending an ACP (African Carribean Pacific) meeting. He caught a train from France to host a dinner for Mr Bainimarama.
Cuban Visit
When Mr Bainimarama lands in Havana today, he will go down in history as the first Fijian leader to officially visit Cuba. The two countries entered into diplomatic relations in 2002. Since then they have continued to enhance collaborations for diplomatic engagement. Relations were bolstered when Cuba opened a resident mission in Suva. Recently, the Cuban Ambassador to Fiji Carlos Manuel Rojas made a courtesy call on Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs Minister Inia Seruiratu.
Busy time
This is a busy time for Mr Bainimarama. He will have a short rest after the Cuban visit before heading to Australia to address the AustraliaFiji Business Council. The trip is scheduled after the Fiji Independence Day celebrations.•
