Christine Baravilala was crowned Miss Savusavu for the 2019 Vodafone Hidden Paradise Carnival in Savusavu on Saturday night.

“I really want to make a change for Savusavu, and I have a lot of plans to work on,” Ms Baravilala said. “The people of Savusavu are aware of the environmental issues that we’re going through, I will work closely with the carnival committee to carry out projects to address these issues, focusing on the protection of our coral reefs.”

The 19-year-old also scooped four other awards including the awards for best talent, best sarong, best traditional wear, Miss Personality and best float, for which she thanked her sponsors, family and all those who contributed to the win.

Her mother, Sisilia Kotobalavu was over-excited when she heard her daughter’s name declared the winner.

“This is the first time for the family to win even though Christine’s older sister also took part in last year’s carnival. It’s not only a win for Christine but all the contestants who took part.”

Mrs Kotobalavu acknowledged the blessings of the Almighty God and also thanked everyone who helped Christine put together everything that made it a successful journey for her.

Miss Savusavu 2019 won a return trip to any Fiji Airways destination, a gift from Fiji Pearls limited, a gift from Jack’s of Fiji, a perfume set, a gift voucher from Solanki’s and a dress watch.

Ms Baravilala is an intern Diver at Cousto Resort and working to complete her diving masters and further her education in Biosecurity at the Fiji National University next year.
