MOHAMED SALAH INJURED

AS LIVERPOOL EDGE OUT LEICESTER CITY

-

Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp hit out at a “dangerous as hell” challenge from Hamza Choudhury as he reflected on Liverpool’s last-gasp win over Leicester City.

The Premier League leaders made it eight wins from eight games to start the new season as James Milner converted a 95th-minute penalty after both Sadio Mane and James Maddison had earlier scored.

But one of Klopp’s main concerns after the match was a cynical tackle from Foxes midfielder Choudhury, which forced Salah from the field late on and brought only a yellow card.

He said: “It’s just a challenge which I really don’t understand. How he can do it, because the ball is far away. The player is full sprint to bring him down without the ball around, for me there is only one colour card. I see in your eyes that I am probably the only one who sees it like this.

“It is dangerous as hell. I don’t want to cause the boy [Choudhury] any problems but he has to calm down. He has to calm down. This is not the first situation like this. Super player but these kind of challenges… no.

“From a football point of view, if you are quick, you need to make sure that somebody can’t do everything to bring you down. I don’t need to be a football manager to know this can cause serious injury. I only need two eyes!”

With Maddison’s equaliser coming in the 80th minute, Brendan Rodgers’ team looked a good bet to claim a point at Anfield for the second consecutive season.

But the hosts simply renewed their assault on the visitors’ goal, an approach that was rewarded when Mane was downed in the box. -Evening Standard
