Five New Wheelchairs For Labasa Hospital
Agroup of young people is making a difference in the local community after it handed over five new wheelchairs for the Labasa Hospital. The members of Rotary Club of Labasa handed over to the Medical Superintendent of Labasa Hospital Dr Jaoji Vulibeci the additional wheelchairs to cater for the needs of the patients at the hospital.
Club president John Prasad said Rotary Labasa had always lived by the motto of ‘Service above Self ’ and through this project, Rotary Labasa has shown its commitment of serving the community here in the North.
“This is one of the projects that has continued over the years and we will continue assisting with wheelchairs as there is always a need,” Mr Prasad said.
“We are attacking this NCD problem from all angles and hope that parents, schools and communities will work with us on this. A healthier generation builds a healthier nation.
“We are raising awareness in various schools in the Northern Division attacking non-communicable diseases as it is a problem in our society.
“We have also undertaken a project called the SOS Project which is Save Our Soul from Salt, Oil and Sugar. “This project aims to change the mindset of young children to prioritise their health so that they don’t end up needing wheelchairs later in life.
“Everyone needs to work together to battle NCD’s and while it may be harder for the older generation to change their eating habits, it’s much easier to put the younger generation on the right track,” he said.
Mr Prasad said Rotary Labasa has a Squash court at Madhavan Street which the public can utilise for physical exercise.
He also encouraged young people to join the club as an opportunity to give back to the community through their experience and expertise.
