Reifa Takes Principal’s Award, tops Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry Subjects

t was a proud moment for Reifa Buinimasi when he received the prestigious Marist Brothers High School principal’s award during the MBHS annual prizegiving ceremony at Lambert Hall yesterday .
The 18-year-old who was also the head boy, took home the subject awards for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
“I want to thank God for the strength and my parents and family members for their encouragement,” Reifa said.
“I also want to thank the Ratu Mara Hostel staff and boarders who have become a second family to me.”
Reifa is originally from Naikeleyaga, Kabara Lau. His family resides in Nadi and he has been living away from home all these years to attend MBHS.
He was the dux of the school last year.
“My father is a former student of this school and it was his dream to see me study here. I am happy that I was able to make him proud,” he said.
Other than balancing academics and the head boy’s duties, Reifa also represented the school at the Coke Games and was part of their Under-18 rugby team.
As a kid growing up in Nadi, Reifa was fascinated with airplanes and he was recently accepted at the Pacific Flying School.
“I went to Mount Saint Mary Primary School near the airport. When we would be playing outside, I would see aeroplanes fly over and I had never seen the inside of a plane. So my interest grew, “he said. The aspiring pilot has completed his aptitude tests and was given an offer letter by the institution.
Efforts Pay Off
MBHS 2019 dux Temafa Yalimaiwai dedicated his achievements to his parents and teachers.
“I am so grateful that a lot of people believed in me and supported me in this journey, “Temafa said. Other than juggling school work, the 17-year-old from Makadru in Matuku Lau also represented Fiji in swimming at the Pacific Games this year.
“It was tough, I missed out on school and had to come back and catch up,” he said.
“I worked really hard for it and I am happy my efforts paid off.”
He intents to pursue studies in accounting and economics for the future.
